At Elstow Lodge Family Centre, we are committed to providing parents and families with guidance and support in a safe, caring and nurturing environment.

Our approach focuses on recognising and building upon each parent’s strengths, while providing sensitive support in areas where further development or assistance may be needed.

Residential Family Assessments are designed for situations where there are significant concerns about a parent or carer’s ability to meet their child’s needs. Typically lasting around 12 weeks, these assessments provide a personalised and in-depth approach, offering families the care, guidance and support they need throughout the process.

We welcome and support families from all cultural, ethnic and faith backgrounds.

Residential Family Assessment Centres are designed for families where there are serious concerns about a parent or carer’s ability to meet the needs of their baby or child/children.

Each family is allocated a dedicated Key Worker and a qualified Social Worker. They work closely with the family throughout their stay, helping to identify areas of difficulty and develop practical, supportive solutions tailored to their individual needs.

Parents are encouraged to take the lead role in caring for their child/children during their stay. This provides opportunities for parents to build confidence, strengthen their parenting skills and develop their understanding of their child’s needs. It also provides children with consistency and stability, minimising the need for them to experience multiple caregivers while supporting the parent/carer to become more confident in their abilities.

Prior to arrival, families are provided with a Parent Handbook containing important information about their stay. Wherever possible, families are also invited to visit the centre beforehand, giving them the opportunity to meet the team, view the facilities and become familiar with their surroundings. Where an in-person visit is not possible, we can arrange a video call to show parents around the centre, view their room and introduce them to members of the team before they arrive.

The assessment process takes a holistic approach, considering all aspects of an individual’s parenting, including their ability to understand and respond to their child’s needs and provide safe, consistent and nurturing care.
